DEIGHTON GRIFFITH - HISTORY
The school opened in 1991 and was named after a prominent Barbadian educator Mr. Deighton Griffith. The first set of students were selected from all across Barbados. Mr. John Blackman was the first principal of the school with Mr. Malcolm Squires as the chairman of the Board of Management.

The school's primary focus was on technical and vocational subjects, with special emphasis on Home Economics and Industrial Technology. Over the years this has evolved to a strong participation across all subjects on the CXC curriculum. Recently the school's academic offerings have expanded to include CCSC and CVQ's. It is hoped that soon we will be able to offer CAPE.

The school has seen significant expansion, moving from 600 students and 35 teachers to now 880 students and 56 teachers. Recent infrastructural work has provided a modernized Industrial Technology block as well as expanded facilities for Agriculture Science and Technology. There have been a number of achievements in the area of sports, public speaking and debating as well as in the visual and performing arts.
The school boasts over 30 different sporting or extra-curricular activities which students can be a part of. This contributes to our consistent aim of developing an all-round citizen. In 2012 a strategic plan was developed which charted the way forward for the school for five (5) years. A School Improvement Grant in 2016 saw an increase in teacher training, technology integration and academic focus.

As it stands the Deighton Griffith School is a success story on the educational landscape of Barbados. From all indications it is poised to do even better in the years to come.
