Frequently asked questions

  • My child is missing textbooks
A delay in customs and with our suppliers impacted us greatly. Almost all books should be delivered by Week 7 and we have pre ordered extras as a backup (Oct 18, 2019).

  • I want to collect my child but I didn’t send a letter
Parents can present themselves in person to collect their children once they are identified by the student.  A form will have to be filled out and a pass provided to leave the school.

  • What is the real cell phone policy
The national policy is that cell phones are banned.  At Deighton Griffith we sometimes use mobile technology in our classes based on our Google platform.  Should any student bring a phone with the permission and knowledge of their parent, it must not be used unless allowed to and authorized by a teacher.  Any devices which are misused, or seen outside of school hours can be confiscated for a period of time.

  • What happens if my child falls ill?
Children who are ill can report to the sick bay.  Where the condition seems contagious or serious parents are contacted.  Please ensure your child knows your contact information so they can tell us.

  • My child was injured at school

  • Injuries at school are treated seriously.  Parents are immediately notified in serious cases and an injury form filled out.  Where the injury is caused by another party, both sets of parents are notified.

  • Contact a teacher
Parents are advised to email the school (deightongriffith@gmail.com) with any queries.  They will be forwarded to the necessary persons.

  • What is Technology Education?
Technology Education was introduced with Curriculum 2000.  We have revamped the first year syllabus to more cater to our needs and the skills our students need to build.  The class is also intended to act as a bridge for other classes and to push our Google for Education initiative.

  • Google for Education
Google for Education is a platform which allows all students and teachers to access Google apps in a controlled Deighton Griffith environment.  Every child has an email and can access Google Drive, Google Classroom and other google features. This is the 2nd of a 3 year push to fully integrate it into our teaching and learning.  Everyone has not been trained and is not on board yet however.

  • My child does not have a laptop or computer
We are awaiting computers to be placed in the school library which will help to facilitate students without technology at home.  Students can also make use of the school’s computer lab under supervision.

  • How are promotion marks calculated
Students are promoted based on continuous assessment.  We take 30% of Term One’s mark 20% of Term Two’s mark and 50% of the End of Year exam mark to determine an overall promotion mark.

  • What is enrichment?
Enrichment is a single lesson dedicated to an extra curricular activity for our first years.  It helps them to build cooperation, teamwork and social skills while exposing them to activities which they may benefit from.
